what is a sonic diary ? my sonic diaries can contain anything that sounds. since 1998 i am collecting bits and pieces of music, noises, sounds, recordings, bootlegs, conversations, telephone calls, radio plays, old vinyl of my parents, whatever. i have been walking around with a microphone in berlin and other places, i have produced music with my old "raven" synthesizer and other hardware devices or pc software. i have collected soundfiles from the early days of computer technology and the child days of audiosharing. i have told people to do things while recording them. i have recorded people without them knowing it. i have recorded and processed recordings from television, video tapes, dvds, cds and selfmade movies. i have made musicians play compositions for me while i changed the sonic result. the sonic diaries contain a lot of excerpts from movies, compositions, songs, tracks, soundtracks, i watched / was listening to at the time of the recording. a sonic diary is supposed to function like an ear itself. it can contain anything you can hear. it is some kind of sonic collage (medley) without any purpose. there is no meaning in exposing the sonic data the way i did. it is senseless. it is random. sometimes i just turned on a radio or tv and recorded what has been broadcasted at this very moment without knowing what this would be before. a sonic diary is a compilation or forum for any sound while ignoring the origin of the sounds used to free the listener from any kind of expectation. there is no aesthetic restriction or other limitation of any kind. a sonic diary is some kind of documentary of what went through my ears in the past without focussing on anything. a sonic diary is not trying to express something in any way. it is a reflective product of what happens while playing with sonic materials. a sonic diary is never really finished. it is sonic interdata. the border between the sonic material i have produced and the sonic output of others is abolished for myself as well as for anyone else who listens to it.
